There seems no logical reason why the list should be separated based on commercial or freeware.

Shouldn't it be the 'Vegas Family' or just 'Vegas' instead of explicitly mentioning 'Sony Vegas MovieStudio+DVD' (the low-end version of the Vegas programs)? It can in principle do everything one might ever need when editing videos (although it might be to clumsy to work on the command line). Is mencoder not much more than an encoder? I mean, it has cutlist and pipe support and can therefore do much more than just encoding.
